Finding a dent in your vehicle can be extremely frustrating – but unfortunately giving it a swift kick from the other side isn’t the best (or most efficient) way to fix it.
There are varying levels of dent or ding and each needs to be assessed and treated on its own merits. SMART Answers will inspect your vehicle and give you advice on the repair required depending on the severity of the dent.
If the paint hasn’t been cracked or affected by the dent, a paint-less dent removal (known as PDR in the industry) can take place. This involves massaging the affected area with steel rods and specialist heat lighting to allow the dent to be thoroughly mapped and then the metal to take back its original form. PDR used to be a ‘trick of the trade’ only used by manufacturers who accidentally damaged vehicles on the production line, but the SMART Answers team are well versed and fully qualified in this effective method of repair.
Where the vehicle’s paint has been damaged by the repair, the SMART Answers team may fix the dent first before re-painting or touching up the affected area. There are several specialist pieces of equipment that can be used to work the dent out, all selected appropriately to the metal type and thickness, paint type and flexibility of the metal, dependent on the curvature or flatness of it. In extreme cases, we may need to remove an area of paint before a dent repair takes place. In this instance, we will consult with you before any action is taken and recommend what we think right for you and your vehicle.
